Frequently asked questions

  • Did Horizon Power change Sunshine Saver?

Yes, in October 2025, we simplified Sunshine Saver by removing the daily subscription fee and increasing the daytime energy discount to 25% between the hours of 9am – 3pm.

  • Can I join Sunshine Saver?

Sunshine Saver is only available to eligible customers, though places are limited. To be eligible for Sunshine Saver you must:

    • Live in an eligible Sunshine Saver town; and
    • have a Horizon Power residential (A2 tariff) account with a personal name; and
    • not receive an energy allowance from your employer; and
    • don’t have an existing rooftop solar PV system;

In addition to the above - you must meet one of the following eligibility criteria:

    1. Renting your home, or
    2. Hold an eligible concession card, or
    3. Recognised by Horizon Power as being in financial hardship

As per section 3 of our terms and conditions we can vary the structure or characteristics of Sunshine Saver including concession limits from time to time and for any reason. We can also discontinue the product entirely at any time, for any reason.

  • Why is Sunshine Saver only available in some towns?

Sunshine Saver was originally launched in Esperance in October 2023 following the successful commissioning of the Shark Lake Renewables Hub in 2022.

Because we’re investing more in renewable energy, additional towns with large centralised systems can now access the Sunshine Saver.

  • How can Horizon Power guarantee the savings?

We’ve designed Sunshine Saver so participating customers are guaranteed to save on their energy bill. Every Sunshine Saver household receives:

    • Minimum guaranteed bill credits of $118 per year. This is made up of 1 free daily unit of energy applied to your account throughout the year.
    • 25% discount for all energy used between 9am – 3pm daily. These savings are applied over-and-above the $118 guaranteed credit per year

To maximise your energy bill savings, we recommend shifting as much energy use to between 9am to 3pm each day.  A great way to do this is by setting the timer for things like your washing machine, dishwasher, pool pump and reticulation to run between 9am to 3pm.

By making these small changes you’ll save 25% off your daytime energy use and increase your bill savings.

  • Can I opt out of Sunshine Saver?

You can opt out of Sunshine Saver anytime. To do this simply:

    1. Log into MyAccount
    2. Navigate to More tab
    3. Select Self service
    4. Select the 'Account details' tab:
    5. Click Unsubscribe
  • Do I need to do anything to start saving?

If you’re an eligible customer, after you sign up you don’t need to do anything else. You’ll receive a Welcome to Sunshine Saver email to confirm you’ve joined, and your free daily fixed credit and daytime discount will start straight away. Your Sunshine Saver savings will appear on your next energy account.

To maximise your energy bill savings and receive 25% discount off your energy, try and make simple changes like running your washing machine, dishwasher or air conditioning to run between 9am and 3pm.
